Development Focus
Note: development focuses and values are on hold whilst we review all youth work provision at the current time.
We have a set of focuses which change every term and these help us to develop the club further.
The adult team are encouraged to develop activities and discussions around the focus (which has sub-categories, not listed here) and the young people through their involvement help to develop the programme of activities as a result.
You can see here the current focus guiding our work. Would you like to get involved with our forward-thinking youth club?
Quality Mark

The best Christmas present EVER came early for Kennington Youth Club. On 15th December 2017, just three months after opening, we gained our Ambition First Steps Quality Mark from Ambition UK.
Ambition is a leading national body and youth charity working to support and extend the impact of our members, on behalf of young people. The First Steps Quality Mark measures us against set criteria and ensures we have basic quality standards in place to deliver activities to young people safely and legally. It is a recognised quality assurance mark, proving officially that KYC is simply fantastic.
The next step is the Bronze Award but we’ll need a bit more money to register and apply for that one. Thank you to everybody that has supported us.
Programme
Evidence through testimonials and in other parts of the portfolio show that Kennington Youth Club is welcoming for young people and that staff make themselves available to talk to and to join in activities. It is great to see the variety of activities on offer for young people to enjoy. We particularly like the idea of a loyalty card to encourage attendance and that members and visitors are greeted on arrival. It is also good to see the way that the Club promotes positive attitudes and behaviour towards equality and that young people are made aware of their responsibilities in this area.
Policy
There is a child protection and safeguarding policy in place which names the safeguarding leads (shared role). Evidence of up to date training in safeguarding has been provided, thank you. There is evidence of relevant insurance cover in place, including public liability, employers liability and buildings cover. We note that the Club is currently in negotiations for renewing its lease of the land on which its building is situated. It is good to see that the Club’s constitution has been formally adopted and is
signed and dated.
Procedure
Evidence across the portfolio shows that appropriate administration procedures are in place. Evidence has been provided of accident recording sheets, a detailed risk assessment, records of DBS checks and renewal dates, records of safeguarding and first aid training, staff information sheets and a list of roles and duties. We particularly like the comprehensive pre and post-club check list. Evidence within the portfolio also shows that fire drills are planned and that there is a fire evacuation plan. Thank you for explaining that first aid training has been arranged to ensure that there is always cover.
